Welcome to the blog portion of my website.
My name is Paul Henry. I'm a retiree with 25 years of law enforcement experience in corrections, patrol, traffic homicide, line along with second tier supervision, and criminal investigations. Along the way, I picked up a decent amount of knowledge as to how computers function, and I've learned web design one page at a time. This site was initially set up as a forum for retired law enforcement professionals, but since this never caught on, it's changed into a political commentary site.
Of late, I have focused on an alarming trend within Florida and other states: The loss of liberty (our rights as guaranteed by both our Florida and U.S. Constitutions) for the perception of "safety" or "security".
Whether it be proving you are who is on your driver's license (even though there is no reasonable suspicion you are someone else) by being compelled to turn over personal papers to the government for inclusion into a database, having your septic tank "evaluated" even though there is no reasonable cause to do so, to having your prescription added to a government database when there is no reasonable suspicion you are abusing prescriptions, our government is shifting from liberty to tyranny. All of the above have been added or are being proposed to be added to our state laws here in Florida since 2008.
If you'll recall, tyranny was really the main reason we fought to escape English rule in the 1700's. I do not advocate anarchism. I am a firm believer in the rule of law. With this rule of law comes rights and obligations. The citizens have an obligation to obey constitutional laws, and the government has the obligation to respect the rights of the citizens. We are believed innocent until proven guilty in America, and I'm working to keep it that way.
Although I've abstained from political activity for most of my life, in 2009 after being hit with an income tax penalty due to my age and management of my retirement income, I found that I could no longer do so. The political class of people in Washington and elsewhere are out of control and are not listening to the taxpayers and citizens they are supposed to represent. We have an incredible amount of national debt and yet they continue to spend money like there is no debt. I cannot live like this, and do not think our government should either.
Our nation is in bad shape due to a lack of leadership and creation/support of an entitlement mentality on the part of both major political parties. I was a lifelong Republican, but after the 2008 elections I found I did not care for either of the two parties. After doing a lot of research, I joined the Constitution Party.
After a couple of years there and volunteering in an independent congressional campaign, I found that this country is irretrievably entrenched in the two party system. Regardless of how great your ideas and principles are, you are not treated the same as an independent candidate and your message simply will not get out. I subsequently rejoined the Republican Party to try & affect a return to their core values from within. Learn more about the Republican party below:
As a critical and logical thinker, I don't favor anyone over another unless they can consistently articulate why I should do so. You'll see this site is equally critical of Republicans as it is Democrats if they fail to follow our rule of law known as our Constitution, or act in a hypocritical or inconsistent manner.
Finally, I am a Bible-believing Christian, and you'll probably see this in more of my posts as time goes by, as I believe I have been remiss in the amount of political vs. spiritual things I write about. I have felt inspired by God on much of what I write, since I possess no great skills on my own, and give thanks to Him for the spiritual gift of writing and for His Son Jesus who died so that I could have eternal life.
You will not see many comments on this blog. The reason for that is it is tightly moderated. Due to a large volume of spam comments, you must now register to comment here. Registration is free, but you must tell me that you are interested in the topic, not just make a generic comment. Unlike some stealth pro-party (both Democrat but mainly Republican) sites, if you have a comment it will not be deleted simply because you hold an opposing view. We should discuss issues at length and make factual, logical, and professional arguments for our position.
