Thanks again. We can count on your deductions to notice the positive and the negative and share them with us.
It is quite wonderful to be working and doing what makes you happy. Sharon has found her niche and made life better for those who come in contact with her.

That was an interesting read. The first thing that came to mind was that he being a public official may have been assigned a dummy SSN (reason #7 on the WND page). Police officers in Florida that work undercover are given driver licenses in other names. If this was the case, I think someone would have said so by now.

It's too funny that the President fails E-Verify.

I don't normally use WND as a source, but was able to verify some of what this author was saying.

J,
There are portions of this bill that make sense. If one is an illegal alien, then it should indeed be a crime to be in the state/country (this is in the bill). If a citizen has knowledge of an illegal immigrant working here, they should be reported and investigated (also specified in the bill), just as we do with other crimes. As I'm typing this, there are any number of crimes being committed here in Florida. Should we as citizens have to prove our innocence for each of them? Of course not. The huge issue with this bill is the turning upside down of the concept of Liberty by registering citizens in yet another federal database. It is in fact obtaining permission from the federal government to work in Florida. Just like health care, the federal government lacks the authority under the Constitution to do this. Why do you think they are utilizing the states to do it, just as they did with REAL ID for a national/international ID card?

Unfortunately some of our citizens are willing to sacrifice their liberty for the perception of security, and many of our legislators are looking for an "easy" fix to the problem, just as they have done with REAL ID, red light cameras, septic tank evaluations and had proposed to do for prescription drug abuse (this has since been vastly improved over the original bill). All of these have been promoted as being for "safety" or "security". I'm not willing to do so, and hope to persuade others that E-Verify has some certainly undesirable consequences. Let's look at one likely scenario:

An alien buys a "clean" identity, which just happens to be yours. As a matter of fact, 10 aliens buy it. All of a sudden, your SSN pops up in E-Verify from Florida to Maine to California. E-Verify cannot tell which one is actually you, so now you are flagged along with the other 9. This will require you to eventually take time off from work and go to the SS office and re-verify your identification (the same thing happens with ID theft cases). Even though you have done nothing wrong, you are now forced to prove your identity (this is the same problem with REAL ID by the way). In the worst case, this goes undetected until you obtain a new job, and then due to the discrepancy, your employer either fires you or has to file an affidavit. Keep in mind that 1 in 25 SSNs in E-Verify are erroneous or have other problems.

Included in this is the government's ability to tell private businesses that they must fire employees, which is based on E-Verify. Can you understand the intrusion upon our private lives this law imposes on us? If there is reasonable cause to suspect a worker is an illegal, it should be investigated and prosecuted just like any other crime. This would need to be done with E-Verify anyway. I have no problem with the government doing so and arresting an employee for deportation after an investigation. That is an authorized function. It's not the employer's job to be the police.

I hope this has helped to answer the question you posted.

Thanks for the enlightenment. So then if E-verify as presented in the legislation doesn't work, how DO we tackle illegal immigration as the feds are not likely to do their duty under present administration? Illegals crowd schools, draw on entitlements, burden health care, etc. so doing nothing costs big too. The illegals being allowed to work also flies in the face of the immigrants who follow the law and take the path toward legal citizenship.
AND it's ILLEGAL.
